HURRICANE TIE-DOWNS FOR ROOF STRUCTURES

Here on the coast of the Southeast, we know the realities of hurricanes, and know how important it is to prepare your structure properly.
	Considerations for Hurricane Tie Selection What is the uplift load? What is the parallel-to-plate load? What is the perpendicular-to-plate load? What is the species of wood used for the rafter and the top plates? Will the hurricane tie be nailed into both top plates or the upper top plate only? What load or loads will the hurricane tie be taking?

The following chart lists EBC'S recommended hurricane tie-downs for trusses and other structural framing, based on uplift at the bearing.  The particular tie-downs listed are stocked items in the EBC hardware inventory.  Values used include a strength increase of 160% for wind.
